Muldoon boards the bus, 1976
A press photo of then NZ Prime Minister Robert Muldoon catching a Wellington bus, or at least appearing to. Muldoon was NZ Prime Minister from the end of 1975 to July 1984 and a notable control freak. Although centrist in his general political stance, he managed to antagonise a lot of people by being contemptuous of critics and opponents.
One notes the pompous language on signs popular with authorities in those days: instead of "No eating" they preferred "The consumption of ice cream or other foodstuffs aboard this vehicle is prohibited".
