The day that closure of the old Wairarapa railway route between Maymorn and Featherston and 5 days before the opening of the new route via the Rimutaka Tunnel took place, a pair of De diesels are seen with an excursion train to Carterton, via the Rimutaka Incline, one of the most well-known features of the NZ railway system to that point and which likewise ceased with the new route.
