The SS Himalaya is depicted in this Wallace Trickett painting departing Wellington harbour in the early 1960s assisted by the tug Tapuhi. The Himalaya was a P&O passenger ship built by Vickers Armstrong at Barrow in Furness, launched on 5 October 1948 and which sailed on her maiden voyage on 6 October 1949. She remained in service until 19 October 1974 when she left Sydney for breakers yards in Taiwan.
