Car ferries served the ports of Ludington, Michigan, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Manitowoc, Wisconsin, and Kewaunee, Wisconsin for the Pere Marquette Railway and successor Chesapeake and Ohio Railway until 1988.
The postcard isn't dated or the ships identified, but the one on the right looks to be either the Badger or the Spartan: by the mid-1970s there were only three ferries left in service: the City of Midland 41 (built in 1940), the Badger, and the Spartan. The latter two sister ships from 1952 still exist: Badger still operates while Spartan sits at Ludington's 2 1/2 slip.
