pay for US truck drivers expected to increase substantially

According to this Bloomberg story there will be a nationwide shortage of some 300,000 truck drivers in the US in about a year from now, as freight volumes slowly rise, while the number of drivers is almost static.

Industry analysts expect that the result of the shortage will be an increase in pay - from the present levels of around $US 40,000 for a beginner and about $US 70,000 for an experienced driver to $US 60,000 and $US 90,000 respectively.

With the US dollar value slowly rising again too, the USA should present some good opportunities for NZ truckers who want to increase their earnings.
