the former Place Viger railway station, Montréal
Two old postcard views of Canadian Pacific's station and hotel of Place Viger in Montréal. Constructed in 1898 in the château-style common to Canada's railway hotels, Place Viger housed the railway station in its lower levels and a posh hotel on the upper floors. It enjoyed a nice setting among the Viger Gardens, allowing both railway travellers and hotel guests to stroll along the garden paths.
But the commercial centre of the city drifted north-west, the hotel closed in 1935 and the station followed in 1951. The city then bought the building. In 2003, according to this webpage "une école du tourisme" (school of tourism) was going to occupy the building by 2005. The same website states in 2008 the building was sold to a developer for $C 9 million. We know no more.
