Polish humour - the bus to Hel is given 666 as the route number. We don't know what it actually means, although it is first mentioned in Danish documents about a millenium ago, so could have a Norse meaning (see Hell in Norway). In any event Hel is the name of a 35 km long peninsula in the Baltic Sea, and the town is at the end of it. At its narrowest it is only about 10 metres wide. It had the distinction of being the last part of Poland to surrender to the Germans in 1939, on 2 October. Today it is a popular vacation area. And you can go there by train too. Website
