the last Puffer


This was the affectionate term for the Scottish steam powered Clyde based coasters.  Today only one is left, VIC 32 built in 1943, and keeping her going relies on support from donations and holidaymakers who can travel on her.

Specifications:
Length: 66' 4" (20.22 metres)
Beam: 18' (5.49 metres)
Draft: 8' 6" (2.6 metres) at the stern; 4' (1.2 metres) at the bow.
Weight: approximately 160 tons displacement dead-weight
Tonnage: 49 43/100 GRT (Thames Builders measurement.)
Her derrick can lift 1 ton. She was fitted in 1943 with a Cochran vertical water tank boiler. This has 5 water tubes and 1 furnace door on the starboard side. There is a 7 ton coal bunker on the starboard side and a 5 ton one on the port side. The engine was built in 1943 by Crabtrees of Great Yarmouth.
