Coal Country

The environment depicted could be in the European alpine lands, but the rolling stock, the locomotive and the track makes the scene distinctively British.

The biog of the artist, Richard Picton, reads: Richard was born in 1963 in the small mining town of Aberdare, set in the heart of the South Wales coalfield, in the United Kingdom, surrounded by mountainous scenery and the remnants of a once powerful industrial region. This environment has given him ideas and inspiration for many of his paintings. He moved to Berkshire in the late 1970s and lives in West Reading. Richard returns to Wales every so often, looking for subjects for future paintings there, and also in the Thames Valley and South Oxfordshire area. He is self taught.
