the 'Texas' 4-4-0 locomotive

This engine, built in 1856 by Danforth, Cooke and Company in Peterson, New Jersey, played an important role in the Great Locomotive Chase during the American Civil War. It was used by Western and Atlantic Railroad, and the Nashville, Chattanooga and St. Louis Railway. Seen here displayed in the open circa 1930, the Texas is now preserved at the Atlanta Cyclorama building within Grant Park in Atlanta, Georgia, and listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
