Oberhof station and the Brandleitetunnel, Germany

The above four photos are from the early 1930s

This photo is from 1936.
A bit further along the line.
The Brandleite Tunnel is a 3.039 km double track railway tunnel under the apex of the Thüringer Wald (Thuringian Forest) opened in 1884. The alignment is straight, almost in a west-east direction, only the last several metres before the Oberhof station turn slightly to the south. Because of the length, smoke from steam locomotives does not clear quickly and rises from both sides towards the center; accordingly in steam days the tunnel was nicknamed "Vorhof zur Holle (forecourt to hell)".

Oberhof station is 639 metres above sea level and the Oberhof town is popular with skiers in winter.
