trains and cars on The Strand, Tauranga

a 1950s postcard
A mixed steam train heads along the Tauranga waterfront, a photo in the NZ Railways Magazine in 1937
As the name suggests, The Strand in Tauranga runs along the city's beachfront, and is also on the route of the East Coast Main Trunk railway.  The railway from Auckland was connected to the city in 1928, the bridge across the water in the background to the Mt Maunganui peninsular was opened in 1924 (although the branch to Mt Maunganui port wasn't built till the 1950s).
