rural idyll at a French station, 45 years ago

A short goods train runs through the station of Méailles on the metre-gauge Chemin de Fer de Provence, about two thirds the way along the 152 km line between Nice and Digne.  A woman looks out of the Salle d'Attente (waiting room) to check if the sound is that of the Renault railcar that provides the passenger service.

This is now almost the last of the once dense network of "Departmental" railways, often narrow gauge, left in France, and is a worthwhile journey.  Another post about this "Pine Cone Railway" soon.

This pic shows the setting of the above picture: Méallies, on the cliff above the railway, with the zig-zag road to/from the station, is one of the many charming old villages of Provence - website
