railway atlas of Britain and Ireland
We mentioned the new book on historic maps of British railways last week, so this is the latest printing of the atlas of the current British and Irish systems from OPC (part of Ian Allan). This first appeared in 1977 and has had 20 printings with 12 editions since. The maps are colour, but only show water in pale blue, land in white, and the railway lines in black, red, green or blue depending on what they are, not general geographical maps with the lines in bold as in the Schweers + Wall atlases which are better, however, this is still useful when it comes to locating things specific to railways, including light railways and underground lines. The info isn't as detailed as it is with Schweers + Wall maps either, but it is (as far as we know) the only such atlas available on Britain/Ireland and the publisher assures on page 2 that every effort has been made to ensure accuracy. 128 pages, 175 x 250 mm, hardcover.
