policing Britain's motorways 50 years ago

Dust bins a.k.a. trash cans - in those days always made of metal, nowadays mostly plastic.
Most people here (over 40) will recognise the Ford Zepyhr, a very popular car in its day in this part of the world too.  Britain's motorways were a lot less crowded then they are now (two of us drove from York to London down the M1 not so long ago; solid three-lane traffic in both directions all the way) and the vehicles were more interesting.  See the rest on this blog
