This postcard was issued to mark the double-headed steam special from Auckland to Wellington and return in April 1985 -- a significant event of the time, particularly as mainline steam specials were then rare events. This was for the centenary of the commencement of the NIMT. In 2008 there was a steam special to mark the centenary of the NIMT's completion. For more details, see our books.
