new NZ coastal tanker 'Matuku'

The 183-metre, 50,300 dwt Matuku, launched at SPP Shipbuilding’s Sacheon yard on 30 December 2015 replaces Torea, which has been on the New Zealand coast since 2007, and has been built for Silver Fern Shipping Ltd to be chartered to Coastal Oil Logistics Ltd, which schedules product deliveries and manages operational matters on behalf of its four shareholders – BP Oil NZ, Chevron NZ, Mobil Oil NZ, and Z Energy.   A reception in Wellington is to take place in a few days. For those interested in product tankers, not just for oil, we have been doing the pre-press work on a 256-page colour hardback history book of them covering the international scene as well as NZ, authored by Nick Tolerton and Mike Pryce.  This will be available later this year.
