This is metre gauge, opened in 1887, 1.681 km (1 mile) in length, and involves a gradient of 2 - 3.2% for a change in altitude of 438 metres.
Until 1923 the propulsion was gravity acting on water tanks, but that year the system was electrified. Today the cars travel at 6 m/s and take 10 minutes a trip.
