freight train on Pengra Pass, Oregon, 1971


UP SD40 #3071 & SP SD45 #8939 at tunnel 18.  We intend to spend a week in this general area in June.

Willamette Pass is the name given to the Highway crossing of the Cascades, the actual railroad crossing is Pengra Pass named for its discoverer B.J.Pengra along with W.H.Odell in 1865. Pengra is some 600 ft lower elevation than Willamette.
