This 69-metre long bridge with three arches has crossed the Alster between the inner and outer Alster since 1651 on part of the historic Hamburg Wall installations. In 1902 it was found necessary to widen it from 32 to 48 metres and this postcard scene probably dates from not long afterwards. Today it carries four railway tracks - 2 for the Hamburg S-Bahn - and 4 road lanes.
A characteristic feature are four cast iron 4-arm candelabras, each supporting 5 light balls.
