Tinakori Road, Wellington, 1938

With the intersection with Hill Street foreground centre left.  Some of the houses in the area were bulldozed in the 1960s to make way for the foothills motorway.  The large house at bottom right was bought in 1865 to be Premier House, then in the late 1930s turned into a school dental clinic, and in the 1990s, turned back into Premier House for official Prime Ministerial use.  Ironically the wife of the first PM to use it after its reconversion in the 1990s, Joan Bolger, took her children there when it was a dental clinic.  A pic considered for, but not used in the book Wellington: a Capital century.
