Black Hand Cut, Newark, Ohio, early 20th century


The Black Hand (now spelt as one word) refers to a black hand petroglyph that was found on the cliff face by the first settlers to the area.  We think this is the Baltimore and Ohio RR, and the route was abandoned in 1958 when the construction of Dillon Dam and its resulting reservoir on the Licking River required a new route. Is the gentleman wearing the tie a director of the railroad?
