Profile of an 038 class steamer, Germany

Steam loco 038.382.8 heads towards Dornstetten on 8 April 1974 over the line Tubingen - Freudenstadt with 2 Silberlinge cars.  This class began as the Preussische Staatseisenbahnen's P8 class 10-wheeler from 1906, known as the Mädchen für alles (maid for all work). It became class 38.10–40 of the Deutsche Reichsbahn and class 038 with the Bundesbahn after WW2.  To 1923 an impressive 3,948 were built.  The year 1974 was when the last was withdrawn from service.
