"Northern Pacific didn't operate in Alaska," you say and it didn't, although it had a trans-continental passenger train called The Alaskan until 1952. This poster by artist Sydney Mortimer Laurence, a foremost painter of the Alaskan landscape, was clearly part of Northern Pacific's campaign to get people into a north-west frame of mind.
