1930 Cadillac limo as used by Newmans in NZ


The pic looks like it was taken on the northern Kaikoura coast.

The background picture is indeed of the Kaikoura coast but the image of the car has been superimposed onto it, a common feature of Newman Bros publicity material. The car is the 1930 Cadillac 452 V16 imported through San Francisco by the company in 1934 as a flagship vehicle for their small fleet of quality private hire cars. It never ran as a service car, that was wholly the preserve of the V8s. The V16 was expensive to run and was sold just after the outbreak of WW2. At that point the body was removed and replaced with a large 'woodie' station wagon body built in Nelson. After many vicissitudes over many decades the car was eventually restored to near its original specification and is now in the WOW museum in Nelson.
