That's a very young Geoff Mehrtens at the wheel, photo dates from the 1950's.
The 'license' i e registration plate is from 1956-61 - white on red with a star.I think the rally plate says the car is 1908?I rode in (on?) one of the once. The slow turning horizontal single cylinder makes the car feel as if it is going forward in a series of small leaps.
Officially the NZTA term is "Motor vehicle licence plate", but most people in NZ simply call it the number plate. In North America most people call it the license plate.
