vehicles on the Bloor Street Viaduct, Canada, circa 1920

The Prince Edward Viaduct (also known as the Bloor Street Viaduct) was completed in October 1918 to provide an important link between Toronto's east and west communities. It is 494 metres (1620 feet) long and 40 metres (131 feet) high. A second level below the top deck is used by metro trains. The Bloor Street Viaduct had the dubious reputation of the bridge with the world’s second highest annual rate of suicide by jumping after the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, so in 2003 a barrier was built called the Luminous Veil to stop this.
