Mt Lyell Abt system cog wheel railway, Tasmania, 1952


After the closure of the Queensland Railways' Mt Morgan rack line by deviation on 20 April 1952, this Mt Lyell Railway on Tasmania's West Coast was the last remaining cog wheel line in Australia.  Here a light engine is seen returning downhill on the 3'6" gauge track with a 5% gradient between Rinadeena and Dubil Barril (double barrel :-).
