A photo taken last Friday of a new four-car Matangi electric multiple unit at the beginning of the double track section just south of the Waikanae river and road bridges. Until the mid-1960s the section of road on the right led to a level crossing, replaced by the above-mentioned bridge. (Geoff Churchman)
