steam trains at the former Gare de la Bastille, Paris, 1960s


One floor up from street level, trains - two of them steam with a diesel in the hall - prepare to depart the station for the banlieues.  This station closed in 1969 (see earlier post), its place is now occupied by the Opéra National de Paris.  The Place de la Bastille is in the background.

Interesting pictures. The photo appears to be from the 1960s but the coaches shown are long obsolete for that period and don't appear to be in SNCF green either. I wonder if it could be a special excursion or outing? The steam loco (141TA) is correct for use on that line.correct

Yes, those carriages look pre-WW1 and it could well be a special excursion not long before the line closed. Those people milling around the loco is a fairly typical feature of an excursion!
