Shunting coal wagons in the loading zone of Caboalles de Arriba, with the 2-6-2T No. 5 a Baldwin and a Krauss/Engerth 2-6-4T, No. 17, in April 1983. (Didier Duforest)
A postcard dated 1979.
This was a former 62 km metre-gauge railway line in the valley of the Sil River linking the regions of Bierzo and Laciana in the western province of Léon, autonomous community of Castilla y Léon, which provided passenger trains from 23 July 1919 to 10 May 1980. Some of it remains, currently owned by the coal mining company Cantabrian Coto Minero. Ponferrada is at 511 metres altitude and Villablino is at 963 metres. More here
