GMC logging truck, North Island, 1950s

A GMC truck, ex US Army surplus from WW2, is seen among the central North Island pine forests in the 1950s. Large areas were planted with North American Monterrey pine (pinus radiata) in the 1930s to give work to the unemployed and by the 1950s the trees were ready for harvesting - they grow much quicker in NZ than in their native terrain.
