NSB El 2 electric locomotive class


This class dated from 28 May 1920 when a contract for the construction of two electric locomotives, for the Christiania (Oslo) - Drammen Railway, was signed between the NSB and the Norwegian Electric Brown Boveri, A/S Per Kure and the Norwegian Industrial Machinery Aktieselskapet The locomotives were delivered in 1923. The design was based on the Swiss Ce 4/6 type, but was heavier, stronger and with bigger driving wheels. They were used over the western railway network, first as goods trains locos with a maximum speed of 50 km/h. In 1926 they were upgraded to a maximum speed of 75 km/h and placed in express train service between Oslo and Kongsberg, Skien and Brevik. They were also used during the war in night trains to Bergen from Oslo V to Hokksund to save coal. In later times they went to from Oslo to Drammen V and were used on the  Horten line. Number 2023 was withdrawn in 1959 and 2024 in 1967.
