Kodak ceases making cameras

A bit over a year ago the news was the end of Kodachrome film (see post of 4 January 2011). Now Kodak, which has recently filed for bankruptcy protection, is quitting photography completely by ceasing to make (digital) cameras, leaving the scene to others.

It's the sort of news to produce feelings of wistful nostalgia for the many millions who grew up using their product.  During the 1960s the Kodak Instamatic camera was an entry level camera for many younger amateurs, then the graduation to 35 mm.  We still have 35 mm film cameras but they don't get used now.
