Milano Metro

As can be seen on the poster for the inauguration, the Milan Metro dates from November 1964. It runs mainly underground, serving both Milan and surrounds and the network consists of 3 standard gauge lines, identified by different colours and numbers:

Line M1 (Red) - 26.9 km (16.7 miles) - 38 stations
Line M2 (Green) - 39.4 km (24.5 miles) - 35 stations
Line M3 (Yellow) - 16.7 km (10.4 miles) - 21 stations

All up the system has a total length of 83.5 km serving 94 stations, the largest metro network in Italy. Expansion is in progress; two new lines, 4 and 5 are under construction and more new extensions are planned.
