passenger trains at Colon, Panama

A postcard from 1912 and another probably from the 1950s, both taken at the Colon city station in Panama which is at the Atlantic entrance to the Panama Canal.  The trains are travelling to Panama City, which is 48 miles (77 km) away across the isthmus at the Pacific entrance to the canal.  The line was financed and built by US companies in the 1850s and is still US owned by a joint venture between the Kansas City Southern Railroad and privately held Lanigan Holdings, LLC.  The track gauge was 5 ft (1524 mm) until 2000 when it was changed to standard 4'8½" (1435 mm).  website
