the Coastal Pacific Express, US version

A postcard from the 1950s of the Southern Pacific's then steam-hauled Daylight (see earlier post).  The other side pointed out that the train followed the Pacific coast for over 100 miles (161 km).

The equivalent train in New Zealand, originally the Coastal Pacific Express, now the TranzCoastal, also follows the coast over a significant distance, although for about 100 km (60 miles), not as long.  We understand that the return to the name Coastal Pacific Express is being mooted so as to remove the reference to the former owner of the railways, TranzRail.
