Queen Charlotte Sound whaler 'Orca'

In the foreground of the Picton scene, probably taken not long after the Aramoana was introduced. The photo in Wellington was probably after she had been on the Greta Point patent slip for drydocking.

The vessel was built in 1943 at Nylands, Oslo, 391 grt. Ex-Looma 1. Although the Perano company ceased whaling in 1964, the vessel was owned by J.A.Perano from 1963 to 1966. D.A.Glazier in 1966. Orca was broken up in October 1966 at Picton and the scrap was railed to Auckland. (Thanks to Mike Pyrce)
