Just visible on the left is an edge of the old Thorndon Railway Station -- this and the Lambton Station further along were replaced by the central railway station opened in 1937.

Not earlier than 1935 or maybe 1936. There are several 1935 Fords there. I think the car with the white flanks may be a 1936 Studebaker.
