the Schöllenenbahn, Switzerland

The 3.7 km long, metre-gauge cog-wheel Schöllenenbahn (SchB) was opened in 1917 from Göschenen on the Gotthardbahn of the SBB up to Andermatt on the Furka-Oberalp. The maximum gradient is 17.9%. Initially it was electrified with 1,200 Volts DC but in 1941, when electrification of the FO started, SchB was converted to 11,000 Volts AC. In 1961, it merged with the FO and the hitherto cream and light blue livery was changed to the red of the FO.
