the weirdest library architecture

If the Louvre pyramid and the Pompidou Centre in Paris generated controversy, it was nothing compared with this proposal for the Czech National Library in Prague, which was variously named the Octopus, the Eye, and the Blob.

An international jury unanimously selected the project, designed by architect Jan Kaplicky, from more than 350 entries in March 2007, but fierce opposition including from the Czech President all but scuppered it. The status of the project at present isn't clear.
