One of 10 acquired by this operator is seen in 1971. This Bo-Bo type locomotive was basically a non-turbocharged version of the EMD GP35 and a total 31 were built between March 1964 and November 1965. Power was provided by an EMD 567D1 16-cylinder engine which generated 1,800 horsepower (1340 kW).
Of the 21 examples of this model not acquired by Chihuahua Pacifico, 16 were built for American railroads and five for Southern Peru Copper Corporation.
