Vienna Stadtbahn Station of Karlsplatz, Austria

Built in 1899 this is a well-known example of Jugendstil architecture.  With the conversion of the Stadtbahn line to a U-Bahn line in 1981 the buildings ceased to serve their purpose but after a public campaign they were retained: they were disassembled, renovated, and then reassembled two metres higher, and the one shown is used as museum exhibition space.
