from the library - New Zealand Railways Road Services

This book from 1981 had 64 pages in a landscape softcovered A5 (roughly 8.5" x 6") format, which Southern Press used for several other similar titles.  We have also used it for 6 titles.

NZR Road Services was a long time ancillary of NZR, but in 1991, by then divided into short and long distance operations, it was sold off.  We included a chapter on it in our major history of NZR in 1990, but omitted it in the second edition from 2001.  We have had in mind to publish a comprehensive history of buses in NZ, but it was one of the projects shelved in the economic downturn since 2008.

I look forward to that. Drove for NZR both surburban and long distance in the 80's. Best driving job I ever had, once again a National Government ruined another chapter in NZ' transport history. Great team of lads and ladies I worked with, good comradeship and high standards despite our vehicles ageing . Lots of fun too.
