colonialists arrive by train at Lourenco Marques, Mozambique


Or Maputo as the capital of the former Portuguese colony is now called.  The interesting thing in this pic is that gantry in the foreground - is it a lamppost?

The Lourenço Marques station, built of baked brick and cement, was inaugurated on 19 March 1910, in an informal ceremony attended by Governor-General Alfredo Augusto Freire de Andrade.
I wonder the photo and the postcard was from this year 1910.
In October 1910 starded the Republican regime in Portugal and the following works on the building resumed in 1913 with a project to adorn the facade and construct the dome
