a town named after a railway bridge - Mobridge, South Dakota

A passenger train crosses the bridge over the Missouri River at Mobridge, South Dakota, circa 1910. The Chicago Milwaukee & Puget Sound Railway was a subsidiary of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad a.k.a. the Milwaukee Road until 1912 when it was absorbed into its parent.

The small town of Mobridge was named after this bridge, the origin obvious. The bridge was demolished in the early 1960s and replaced by a higher bridge due to the construction of the Oahe Dam.
