A postcard from 1905 (artist unknown) at which time Gillingham (the g is soft) was a station on the London, Chatham and Dover Railway. This opened its line between Chatham and Faversham on 25 January 1858 and the country station opened here was called New Brompton. The station later became Gillingham. In 1923 it became a station on the Southern Railway and the line was electrified in July 1939 using 3rd rail DC which is still used as can be seen in the second pic by Stephen Battey at trainspots.
