the Dakar railway station, Senegal

The first colored postcard is probably from the 1900s, not looking at the main station but at the workshops and depot (for merchandise?).  The terminal station was built in 1885 and still looks the same now.  A mast of a ship in the nearby port can be seen.

The recent view is of the metre gauge tracks leading into the station - is the area ever cleaned?

The French established the Federation of French West Africa (Afrique Occidentale Française or AOF) with Saint-Louis as capital in 1895, but in 1902 the capital was relocated to Dakar.  Senegal became independent in 1960.
