A total of 78 of these were built for the SA cape gauge lines between 1903 and 1917. Over 1920–21, six were sold to the Tasmanian Government Railways, retaining their T class classification and road numbers. All were withdrawn between 1957 and 1961
Six units were preserved. This example, T249, is seen at Naracoorte, no date given.
