2 Cairo, Egypt, metro stations switch to solar energy

The Ghamra and Demerdash metro stations will be equipped with solar-powered electricity generators, to be installed by the Egyptian Company for Metro Management and the Arab Organisation for Industrialisation, to provide a cleaner and more cost-effective alternative energy source to power the operations of both stops.

The Ministry of Electricity said in a statement that "solar-power projects are part of a plan to rationalise electricity consumption and boost alternative energy use through the installation of solar-power technology on rooftops."

According to the publication, the plan will see state-run institutions shift to solar energy, which applies to above-ground metro stations. The ministry also plans to innovate energy solutions to meet the nation's needs and, most importantly, providing development projects with electricity.
